Globally, about 60% of known infectious human diseases derive from animals, as well as 75% of emerging human diseases. According to the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), 2.2 million deaths are caused by 13 zoonotic diseases each year. To reduce these fatalities and to increase the performance of the global health systems in preventing global health hazards, the one health concept was created.
